From time to time, we all need someone to talk to who is removed from the situation and can provide an alternative perspective. To successfully work out our problems, occasionally we need to tell our story and to really be heard. With a helpful ear and a little insight, I can help you trust your own intuitions and find your own successful solutions.
My style of therapy has a strong center around finding solutions, while also providing a place for meaningful collaboration and the incorporation of experiential methods. I have experience working with art therapy, music therapy, and play therapy as well as the use of several relaxation techniques. In working with these modalities, my goal is to promote client self-awareness in mind and body.
I view the therapist/client relationship as a collaboration of ideas in order to find short and long term solutions to problems. I encourage individuals to find their own creativity and to trust that they know exactly what will work for them and what will not in their particular situation. Together, we then work on how to maintain those solutions, which work.
About Me
I am a San Diego Marriage and Family Therapist Registered Intern (MFTI). I have been working with couples and families since 2009, when I began my practicum work at the Center for Community Counseling and continued to work as a trainee with the Children's Happiness and Integrity Program in San Diego. With this experience I have accrued close to 500 client contact hours working with individuals, children and families. My client experience has largely involved lower SES children and families based in schools with a goal of behavior modification and body awareness, as well as work with adults experiencing adjustment issues.
My education and training includes a Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies from Baylor University in Waco, Texas and a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from San Diego State University. Through my work and training I have become very interested in the use of art within therapy. I enjoy incorporating forms of drawing and painting, as well as music in the therapy room, which often allows for expression when words are difficult to find.
As a therapist, I help clients find solutions by creating goals and developing the steps that are necessary to reach those goals. I focus on individual development, childhood difficulties, family issues, and group work. The work I do will allow for clients to be heard and develop solutions to their problems.
