Jeffrey Young, MA
Office location: San Diego
Reconnecting couples in crisis is my speciality, and helping couples realize their relationship goals is my passion. During my training at VA Healthcare, I collaborated with dozens of veterans and their families as they repaired their relationships, recovered from severe mental illness, and rebuilt trust and intimacy. Whether PTSD, depression, anxiety or addictions are sapping your relationship of vitality, an infidelity has ruptured your trust, or your conversations end in fights and stony silence, you can rely on me to help restore health and secure attachment to your lives.
Working with couples, I generally use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). EFT has been shown to be effective by ample research, and is a good fit for my background and orientation, which is humanistic and grounded in the science of attachment and interpersonal neurobiology. I work to create a safe, balanced, compassionate space for clients to grow and flourish.
I graduated with a MA degree in Marital and Family Therapy from University of San Diego in 2014. Previously, I earned a BA with honors in Philosophy from UC Irvine and a MA in Classics and Comparative Literature from UC San Diego. For a decade, I taught English and Humanities at Francis Parker School, and then lived and worked in Mexico as an EFL instructor. Currently, I volunteer with Men’s Center of Los Angeles as a counselor and advisor, and with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).
