What I believe about therapy is that it can foster people’s growth and nurture their soul during the journey of their life. Therapy is a place for you to learn how to live – not just “exist.” Therapy is a process that can allow for greater insight and therefore help you achieve a better quality of life.
I believe that you have all the answers within regarding your life.
Our relationship is part collaborative and part educational. I provide a compassionate place in helping you learn and expand your personal awareness, and get clarity on what you need, using your internal knowledge and experiences of yourself. I support you in defining your goals and what you would like to work on and together we work to enable you to achieve them.
My style of therapy is directive with a strong emphasis on providing a caring and accepting environment for you to express your feelings and do the therapeutic work. The orientations I use focus on increasing self-esteem and looking at how the past is influencing the current relationships and behaviors. Furthermore, looking at the negative thinking patterns that have kept you stuck. I place a strong value on focusing on the possibilities of your life as well as in the belief that you are the agent of change in your own life.
I have a special interest in helping women and families with a variety of issues. Some of my specialized areas are the following: Grief and loss, anxiety, PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), and domestic violence.
Come see me if you want me to help you unlock the answers within to create a more authentic life.
About Me
I have been working in marriage and family therapy since 2004 and my experiences include working with a diverse population. These populations I have been working with consist of: the chronically mentally ill, children involved in CPS cases, women from a prison system in a drug and alcohol residential treatment center, and as a grief counselor at San Diego Hospice.
I moved to Houston, Texas when I was 3 years old and my family relocated from Texas to San Diego in 1985. From a very young age I have always been interested in listening to people’s “stories” and had a genuine concern in helping them increase their quality of life. Through my studies I have learned that people hold all the answers within them regarding their lives. I have been trained in Family Systems and I believe that most dysfunction is a direct result of past behaviors influencing the present.
As a therapist I focus on increasing self-esteem and helping the client build the self-confidence needed to make changes in their lives. I offer a compassionate place for women and children to increase self-awareness and create an authentic self. I use an eclectic approach in my therapy but draw greatly from Virginia Satir’s Communication Theory.
I am currently an intern at Caldwell-Clark Counseling, a Center for Individual and Relationship Growth, located centrally in the Sorrento Valley area of San Diego. There I provide counseling to individuals, relationships, and families—and also dedicate 20% of my client list to the lower income community.
